Campaign

I am sure all of you are curious about Kent's run for office. We are 2 weeks from the primary so we are coming up on the home stretch. Kent has been walking around the neighborhood, introducing himself, talking to people, and getting to know the concerns of the west side. We hope to get signs soon, and some hang tags for doors.

There was a forum at the public library a few weeks ago that went well. Kent and his opponent answered questions from the media and public. I give props to Kent for sitting through all that. You can check out one of the articles here: http://athensmessenger.1upmonitor.com/main.asp?Search=1&ArticleID=3121&SectionID=3&SubSectionID=&S=1

or see the Athens News article from yesterday:

On Thursday, we get to go the Democratic Party dinner. He will get a chance to speak for 2 minutes. I know what you are all thinking, Kent speak for 2 minutes and 2 minutes only. yeah yeah, we are going to have to work on that one. He CAN be concise when he wants.

Vote for KENT.

Spring is back

Spring is moving right along here in Athens. The weather finally has returned to springlike temperatures, and my garden is coming along as well. Peas, lettuce, broccoli, and cabbage all look great. I didn't mean to buy the cabbage, but it was mixed in with some broccoli sprouts I bought. I don't really like cabbage, but if it grows well, I will find something to do with it. Even if I have to give it away.

My perennials are doing okay too, after that fake spring and hard frost. Earlier in April when it was in the 80's for a couple of days, everything came out. Then those 4 consecutive 20 degree nights damaged alot. I wasn't sure if the hostas would pull through but they seem to be doing okay. The ferns froze as well but I saw new shoots today. The cool thing is that I think it damaged the honey suckle. hahaha. Screw you honey suckle, the bane of my existance. The new bright green leaves were all shriveled up and turning brown. It gave me another week or so to get on top of it and get it under control for the year.

Lucky Number Seven

Seven. The number of years in a row that the OU women's Ultimate team has won the East Plains College Sectional tournament. Not only do they win, but they dominate with class. They play with integrity, respect for each other and the opponent, and most of all, spirit of sportsmanship.

This year's tournament, set in Versailles, Ohio, provided miserable conditions of mud, cold, snow, rain, "wintry mix", and of course, bone chilling wind. However, all teams present played through these elements and continued to represent themselves and their colleges to the best of their ability. I am glad to report to other alumnae of OU Ultimate program that you can be proud of the legacy that is Ohio University Ultimate.

I will post pictures soon.

Kent

Kent had a birthday yesterday but these pictures are from last weekend when we were in Cincinnati. His parents' came down from Cleveland, and we also invited some friends and family over. I loaded the cake with 37 candles. The picture is clowdy from the smoke. I thought the fire alarm was going to go off. It took him 2 breaths to blow them all out. Age will do that to ya'.

Happy Birthday Kent!

Family FUN

This past weekend, Lori and I traveled to Cincinnati for Easter and to spend time with family. My parents drove down from Cleveland as we all spent a wonderful time at the Gromens. Linda and Berry were wonderful hosts and very accomodating with their house full of people and laughter all weekend.

I was excited to see my parents (The Butlers) because they will be heading out west next week for a 5-6 week adventure/vacation. We spent time catching up and talking about their upcoming trip as well as their new condo. My parents officially sold their home of 30 years, which was in Kirtland, and now reside in Fairport Harbor...a quaint little port town, nestled in on Lake Erie about 25 miles North East of Cleveland.

Papa Butler enjoying a moment in the Gromen kitchen.

Over the weekend, we also managed to contact our respective siblings. My sister Kara is living in California, near the Mexico border. She has a 6-week + contract working in a wildlife management capacity. The temporary work offer seemed to be a mixed blessing because it allowed her to escape the cold north of Idaho for an early spring in southern California. However, the exit from Idaho meant leaving some of her loved ones behind, temporarily. As we were talking, she was en-route with some new friends to a San Diego Padres baseball game. The weather was in the 80s in Cali....conversely...we were stuck with some goofy midwest cold-spell which spitted winter flurries, a frost warning, and a bitter chill in the air.

On Saturday, we attempted to divert our attention from the frigin cold weather with a trip to Krohns Conservatory, an indoor oasis of plants. We enjoyed some of the orchids, lilies, and orange trees.

Opening Day!!

Yesterday was opening day for Baseball. At least for the Reds. Some other teams may have started on Sunday, but when the Reds step on to that field, it all begins. I heard they won. I was too busy getting ready for Passover Seder to listen. I did think about them too.

It was also opening day for my allergies. I went to a certain supermarket chain today to get my psuedophedrin. Thanks to some crystal meth heads, I get to feel like a chump buying the stuff. Now, you must show your drivers license, fill out and sign a form, before you are dispensed the stuff from the pharmacy. Thank god you still don't need a prescription for it. So now when I go to get my weekly fill of sudafed, I don't blow my nose for a while. I let the snot crust up around my nose so I look like I really need the itf. Which I do, but for some reason, I feel I need to look legit.

It also sucks because I used to be able to take the herb ephedra but the diet industry abused it and got it ripped off the shelfs. Thanks guys...
