Taste Test

We at Chez-GromenButler have a fondness for chocolate.  And Kent is partial to getting his daily allowance in the form of chocolate soy drinks.  So whenever he goes shopping with me, he grabs a hermetically sealed container of the stuff.  However, we don't get it often enough to see which chocolate drink we like the best.  Bring in the taste test.  We chose Vitasoy and Silk brands for the taste test, merely because Kent has always been a fan of the Vitasoy, but we use the Silk plain variety for our cereal, so we know it's good as well.

Results:

Vitasoy.  Smooth, creamy texture.  Freeze it and you have ice cream it's so smooth.
Silk.  A bit on the grainy side but has a better chocolate taste.  mmmm chocolate.

The thing is that if you were to drink these by themselves they would be very good.  But drinking them side by side, you notice that Silk is less smooth and that Vitasoy is less chocolatey.  But if I had to choose, I go for the chocolate... Silk wins by a nose.

Final Friday

We went to Final Fridays in Nelsonville this past weekend. The red hat ladies were there and demanded to get their picture taken. Very happy to be in Nelsonville.

This is Justin doing his bear impersonation.

Kent admiring himself in the passionworks mirror. I don't know why he looks so surprised.

Feist

Last night Kent and I attended the concert of Feist, a Canadian indie rock star. We hadn't heard of her until our friend Dianne called a few weeks ago to mention that she (Dianne) would be in town with Feist. Of course this opened us up to a bunch of questions, such as, who is Feist? why is Dianne hanging out with her? etc...

Turns out, Dianne's long time partner, Bryden, plays in the band and Dianne is the merchandise manager as well as assistant puppeteer. The show was awesome. Kent characterized Leslie's music as a cross between Bjork, Kate Bush, and Liz Phair. In other words, she frickin' rocks. And her voice is outstanding. Solid. Go here to see her site. Kent says he was pleasantly surprised and won over.

Here is a shot from the show. There were a lot of visuals that went along with the show. As I mentioned above, Dianne is an assistant puppeteer. They have an interesting use of shadow and camera use to see elements of the stage.

Of course, the main treat was getting to hang out with Dianne and Bryden. We walked around campus and had dinner at Casa. Catching up and showing them around attributed to an excellent evening.

After the show, we hit the town. If you look at the lights in this photo, they look like musical notes. I thought it was fitting.

Sometimes Dianne will tap dance for one of the songs. We weren't graced with a performance last night, but we did find this youtube video.

Spring Flowers

With the scent of spring in the air, Kent was ambitious in photographing the local flora.

These are in our yard. I don't know what they are because they have been here since we have had the house. Some sort of bulb of course, because they come back every year, but if you know, feel free to comment.

Grape hyacinths in the Lovejoy's yard. Kent is having fun with the low f stop on his 20 mm lens.

Spring isn't spring without tulips.

Sectionals photos

Here are some action photos of the weekend.

Bethann with the pull. Nice follow through...who taught you that?

Sam, stretchin' it out. I think she got a piece of the disc. Word to the opponent. OU knows the high back hand. Why bother.

Ratch with the flick.

Fans are nice too!!

Olson in his senior portrait pose. Unfortunately, it won't flip for me, but I couldn't pass it up.

Busy Weekend

This past weekend OU hosted the women's Ultimate Sectional tournament. With it, brought out of town visitors and craziness. Stitch, who is coaching Case Western, graced our couch all weekend, and the Meisters were around for Saturday night.

We didn't get a picture of Stitch, but here are Emily, Katy, and I answering questions for a student reporter. The OU-OSU game had just started, so I was a little distracted.

Half time show. This started out as a small pyramid. Maybe a few ladies. But then we decided to put some men on the bottom. Massey and Brain. Safe enough. However, we started to lose it, once a couple of boys hopped up there.

OU getting fired up at halftime.

Unfortunately, Ohio lost in the finals on universe point 10-11. Thus ending the sectional domination of the past 7 years. Never fear, I think these ladies will still take it to 'em at Regionals, and cause chaos.

Cherry Blossom Time

Kent and I walked down to the bike path by campus to admire the blooms of the cherry trees. Today they were in full force. Such a beautiful day too. On the way down, we stopped in front of a house that had an awesome tulip poplar in bloom.

Close up.

Kent looking suave.

Monkeying around.

This doesn't really show the beauty of the trees well, but it does show the vastness. It's a lovely walk.

There was an OU baseball game going on, so we went over there and shot a few pics. The clouds were amazing. They were whizzing by at different levels in the sky and gave interesting contrasts.

Tree Falling...

We finally finished taking the tree down that fell in our backyard. Kent did most of the grunt work, but with the chainsaw, things went a lot quicker than when we were using the bow saw and ax. Now all we have to do is split it up and it's ready to burn. I suppose we'll need a wood stove or something to burn it in. (Maybe Bush will buy it for us.)

The tree fell in the back yard near Rardin St. So we loaded up the truck to transport it around instead of carrying it up the hill. As Kent said, this is why it's nice to own a truck. We had two loads to bring up.

Vrooomm, vroomm!

This last picture was taken last night. The sun was setting and it peaked out from behind the clouds that have swamped us for a few days now. Kent couldn't pass up the golden light, illuminating the new wood pile.
