Last night Kent and I attended the concert of Feist, a Canadian indie rock star. We hadn't heard of her until our friend Dianne called a few weeks ago to mention that she (Dianne) would be in town with Feist. Of course this opened us up to a bunch of questions, such as, who is Feist? why is Dianne hanging out with her? etc...
Turns out, Dianne's long time partner, Bryden, plays in the band and Dianne is the merchandise manager as well as assistant puppeteer. The show was awesome. Kent characterized Leslie's music as a cross between Bjork, Kate Bush, and Liz Phair. In other words, she frickin' rocks. And her voice is outstanding. Solid. Go here to see her site. Kent says he was pleasantly surprised and won over.
Here is a shot from the show. There were a lot of visuals that went along with the show. As I mentioned above, Dianne is an assistant puppeteer. They have an interesting use of shadow and camera use to see elements of the stage.
Of course, the main treat was getting to hang out with Dianne and Bryden. We walked around campus and had dinner at Casa. Catching up and showing them around attributed to an excellent evening.
After the show, we hit the town. If you look at the lights in this photo, they look like musical notes. I thought it was fitting.
Sometimes Dianne will tap dance for one of the songs. We weren't graced with a performance last night, but we did find this youtube video.

Lori,
A student just made me a mixed CD and it has some Feist on it. I love it! Bet the show was great. :-)
